Four of Pentacles
Upright
Reversed
Upright Meaning
A man sits on a bench outside a city, clutching a pentacle to his chest, one under each foot, and one balanced on his crown. He has all four pentacles — but he can't move. He's holding so tightly that the very security he's protecting has become his prison.
The Four of Pentacles is the card of holding on too tightly — to money, to possessions, to control, to the security that material stability provides. The fear of loss has become greater than the desire for life. You're so busy protecting what you have that you've stopped enjoying it, sharing it, or using it to build anything new.
Sometimes this card simply means: save your money, protect your resources, be conservative. But more often it asks: has your financial caution become financial fear?
Reversed Meaning
Letting go. Spending freely. Generosity after a period of hoarding. Or: the opposite extreme — reckless spending, financial insecurity from not saving enough, losing what you had because you stopped protecting it.

Reversed: Releasing physical tension. Body loosening as mental grip relaxes.
Advice
Hold the coin — but don't clutch it. The Four of Pentacles confuses grip with security. True security comes from knowing you can earn more, not from hoarding what you have. The man who clutches four pentacles owns nothing — the pentacles own him.
